A series of 26 images to start the year, taken over the first quarter of this century! I have always been drawn to photography that tells a story within an image, or compositions that work in their own right as 2d images, and the urban landscape widens the scope of architecture to its context, and moment in time.

Updating my website I decided to include urban landscapes as a category in addition to my main practice in architectural photography. Feasibility studies or portraits of a neighbourhood or infrastructure that operates with an urban or planning strategy are encompassed within this. In essence the photography here elaborates on architectural documentation – often the priority for a commission is to capture form, light and materials in such a way as to effectively communicate the qualities of a design project, however the elusive nature and potential of photography challenges me to question our use of space and reflect on how we shape our environment as a society, its unique sense of place and atmosphere. To an extent these images are an ongoing project, a process and reflection on my surroundings that the joy and challenge of photography inspires me to continue exploring.

This selection starts with a couple of images from NYC whilst on an architecture internship in 2000-01. I was fortunate to have an internship at Robert Stern Architects, and experience the energy and character of the city. I have fond memories. The rest of the images are mainly from Glasgow and more recently Edinburgh captured in one of the final images, a recent aerial image from near my current home. I have included both personal images that caught my eye and photographs from commissions that for one reason or another stick in my mind. Having relaunched my website in 2025 I wanted to include some earlier images – much of which was removed in rebuilding the site.

As we go into 2026 there is an additional image taken recently in London Kings Cross whilst passing through and changing trains. 25 years and looking forward to what’s next!
